The Work
Carl Erikson's textile constructions glow with color and unique design. The textiles in many are stretched over frameworks, building up bas-relief dimensions. In others, the textiles float freely from supporting rods. His designs range from pure abstractions to evocations of specific ideas and experiences.
Although much of Erikson's work is in the form of wall pieces, he has also created ceiling-mounted pieces (kites, magic carpets, and totem poles), bedcovers, window treatments, and wall-substitutes. Site-specific work and work incorporating the customer's fabric or design elements are particularly enticing to him.
Erikson has exhibited in galleries, public libraries, corporate spaces, and restaurants.
